J. Lo’s backup-dancer boyfriend has piled up arrests for traffic offenses, but she is not the only star who’s had a dodgy paramour. From Lady Gaga to Charlie Sheen, see celebrities whose significant others have had some trouble with the law.
After splitting with husband Marc Anthony earlier this year, Jennifer Lopez may have found love again with backup dancer Casper Smart. But it turns out he has some problems following the law. He was arrested on March 3, 2006 for driving on a suspended license, not having insurance, and speeding. That arrest resulted in a series of warrants issued when he failed to appear in court or complete community service. Then he was arrested for speeding on April 12, 2010, and on April 15, a judge issued another warrant, when he once again failed to appear in court. Hopefully J. Lo will understand though; she has been arrested herself, after all.

Anne Hathaway’s boyfriend, Italian real estate developer Raffaelo Follieri, was arrested in June 2008 for fraud and money laundering, after telling investors he was the CFO of the Vatican and paying for the couple’s vacations with stolen money. He eventually was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for his crimes. At least Hathaway was able to laugh about the experience. During her monologue on Saturday Night Live, Hathaway said, “I broke up with my boyfriend and two weeks later he was sent to prison for fraud. I mean, we’ve all been there right, ladies?”

Samantha Ronson is a fairly accomplished DJ, but she probably is better known for her relationship with actress Lindsay Lohan. And Lohan probably is best known for her arrests and jail stints. In 2011, already on probation for a 2007 drunk -driving arrest, she was arrested for allegedly stealing a $2,500 necklace from a Los Angeles jewelry store. The probation violation eventually resulted in a 30-day jail sentence, of which she served less than five hours. But she and Ronson had called it quits in 2009, long before then.

Lady Gaga is casually dating Vampire Diaries actor Taylor Kinney. But it turns out he has a criminal record, resulting from his 2002 arrest for swearing and public intoxication. A source said, “He loves to booze it up and party all night. * Hopefully, Gaga can still find happiness and avoid a bad romance.”

Christina Aguilera’s fans were shocked in March 2011, when the pop star was arrested for public intoxication in Los Angeles. But it soon came to light that her boyfriend, Matthew Rutler, had been arrested and charged with driving under the influence, and that Aguilera was simply a passenger in the car. She was arrested “to ensure her safety.” * In any case, the charges against Rutler eventually were dropped, because his blood-alcohol content was determined to be just .06 at the time of his arrest.

Fans of Jersey Shore were excited to learn that Snooki was dating Jeff Miranda in 2010. But they probably were disturbed to learn that Miranda had a criminal record, and once had held a gun to a previous girlfriend’s head. Court documents indicated that Miranda “threatened to burn plaintiff‘s house down while she slept, threatened to cut plaintiff’s brakes, defendant threatened plaintiff by stating ‘if you cheat on me or break up with me you have a hole dug for you already.’ “ *

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kim Richards had family and friends worried when it emerged that her boyfriend, Ken Blumenfeld, had been arrested for DUI in 2009. A source close to the couple said, “Kim thinks she’s in love with someone who cares about her, but Ken is a controlling nightmare and he’s not right for her. *”

Whitney Houston married Bobby Brown in 1992, but almost from the beginning, rumors of drug abuse and violence surrounded the couple. In 2003, Brown was arrested following an altercation in which he hit Houston and reportedly said that he would beat her. Houston still appeared in court with Brown, even with a bruise on her cheek, and said, “We’re still together,”* as they left together. But they finally did break up in 2006.

Sandra Bullock’s former husband, Jesse James, faced a hefty fine when California regulators determined that custom bikes made by his company, West Coast Choppers, were not meeting the state’s clean-air laws. The bikes were releasing 10 times the legal limits of hydrocarbons, and the company was fined $271,250. The following year, James was sued by a man who claimed he had paid James $270,000 to customize a car that was never completed, and by a lawyer for more than $300,000 in unpaid legal fees. But Bullock probably was more disturbed when she heard about his mistresses.

Hard to believe now, but there was a time when Charlie Sheen had a squeaky-clean image and it was once threatened by his girlfriend. The woman in question was Ginger Lynn, a former porn star Sheen was seeing in the early 1990s. In 1991, she was convicted on federal tax-evasion charges and spent four and a half years in prison. Lynn says of the relationship, “The hardest part was attorneys and managers and agents and publicists and people saying, ‘Do this, don’t do that.’ ‘Ginger’s gonna ruin your career and that’s not good for you.”*
