Looks like Jimmy Carter may try to pull a Bill Clinton: The former president will travel to North Korea with the intent of freeing Aijalon Mahli Gomes, a 30-year-old man from Boston who was sentenced to 8 years in prison for crossing into the nation over the Chinese border, according to Foreign Policy. Earlier this month, the state department secretly sent a four-man team to Pyongyang to secure his freedom, to no avail. Sources tell Foreign Policy that Carter will be visiting as a private citizen, and may bring his wife and daughter along with him. "If anyone goes it would be a private humanitarian effort,” said a senior administration official. Experts on the region say that Carter's trip will have no affect on diplomatic relations between the U.S. and North Korea.
