Louisiana Governor and GOP up-and-comer Bobby Jindal has announced he will decline stimulus money marked for state unemployment insurance, a chunk of change estimated by Think Progress at $90 million. Though several Republican hardliners have threatened to reject stimulus money at the state level, Jindal is the first to make his plans official. Jindal's rationale? When the insurance cash runs out, "our businesses would then be stuck paying the bill...We cannot grow government in an unsustainable way." South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford and Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour have also toyed with returning the national cash. After Jindal's announcement, Barbour said he would probably decline the uninsurance money, too, but his decision is not yet certain.
