Joe Arpaio Suspends Immigration Crackdown

Everybody’s favorite anti-immigration sheriff, Joe Arpaio, has suspended his immigration crackdown after a federal judge ordered him to stop racially profiling Latinos. The dissolution of the sheriff’s controversial crusade against illegal immigration—which included his office being stripped of its federal arrest powers prior to the judge’s ruling—is emblematic of the country’s changing attitude toward immigration. “It’s a cautionary tale for any other would-be Joe Arpaios out there,” an immigration law professor from Temple University said of the ruling. “This is an example that others can hardly afford to ignore.”
