Vice President Joe Biden topped off his week of political gaffes (he apologized to Jewish groups for using the word “Shylock” and made another comment about “the Orient” earlier this week) by praising former Senator Bob Packwood, who was disgraced and resigned after allegations of sexual assault against more than 10 women. Biden was in the midst of lamenting that the modern Republican is now much more conservative than previous Republicans, including Packwood. Ironically, he spent much of the rest of his speech defending the Violence Against Women Act and saying there is still much work to be done. “What constitutes success? There will always be some man raising his hand against someone weaker, violently,” Biden said during part of his speech. “But success will come when not a single woman in America asks, ‘What did I do?’”
