John Lennon’s toilet went for a price more befitting a Duchamp than a porcelain throne. The loo, which Lennon used while he lived in Berkshire between 1969 and 1972, sold for £9,500 at an auction for Beatles memorabilia in Liverpool. (That's around $14,745.) Auction organizer and Beatles expert Stephen Bailey said, "It is unbelievable. We had bids coming in from all over the place, but it went to a private overseas buyer." Lennon gave the toilet to his builder, telling him to “use it as a plant pot” after he’d installed a new one. The builder died recently, and the toilet went up for auction. There was also a rare mono-sound LP recorded by Lennon and Yoko Ono, but the commode fetched a higher price.
