Judge Orders Loughner to Medicate

A judge in San Diego has said doctors can force Jared Lee Loughner to take antipsychotic medications in an attempt to make him mentally fit to stand trial for the shooting of Gabrielle Giffords and 18 others. "I defer to medical doctors," said U.S. District Judge Larry A. Burns. "I have no reason to disagree with doctors. I didn't go to medical school." Loughner has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and previously been declared unfit for trial. Doctors have been giving him drugs since June 21. He is in federal prison in Missouri under the care of mental-health specialists.
