Researchers will examine Junior Seau’s brain for evidence of trauma. There is no evidence that Seau suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, which is caused by repeated concussions, but he did take many hits to the head during his 20-year NFL career. A family friend said that as a linebacker, Seau played “the most havoc-ridden position on the team. He suffered many concussions, so there is a strong sense that it played a role.” He added, “Him taking the shot to the chest makes sense that he would want his head examined.”
