The Chicago Police Department has opened an internal investigation into the Jussie Smollett case due to concerns that members of the department were leaking information to the press, TMZ reports. The Chicago Chief of Detectives reportedly opened the investigation. “When there are allegations of information being leaked, an internal investigation has been opened and we are also looking at our vulnerabilities,” a police spokesman told TMZ. Smollett's attorney, Mark Geragos, has criticized the police and said the leaks were an attempt to smear the actor. Smollett has since been charged with filing a false police report claiming he was attacked by two men. The Smollett case also caused problems at the Chicago hospital were he sought treatment after the alleged attack. Dozens of staff members at the hospital were reportedly fired for looking at Smollett's records without authorization.
