Kate Gilmore's Walk the Walk Comes to NY

Mellow Yellow

Kate Gilmore is thinking out of the box with her latest performance art installation that began in New York’s Bryant Park this week. The project, called “Walk the Walk,” is the follow-up to her bust-out video installation at the Whitney Biennial, and this time, she’s including live performers: seven women in identical yellow dresses and ivory pumps, walking around and across the top of an 8-foot yellow box for ten hours a day. The piece was commissioned by the Public Art Fund, which selects only three emerging artists a year to find prominent public spaces for their work. Earlier this year, Gilmore staged a show at the Guggenheim, in which performers walked and talked to visitors on the museum’s ramps.
