Key Issues Resolved in Immigration Reform

U.S. immigration reform still has a long way to go, but it’s getting there. Last week Big Business and Big Labor agreed on a political framework for the legislative overhaul—which will include increased border security and a pathway to citizenship for about 11 million currently undocumented immigrants—passing the torch over to the bipartisan group of eight senators who will ultimately draft the new immigration plan. “Every major policy issue has been resolved,” said Sen. Chuck Schumer, a member of the Gang of Eight. “We’ve all agreed that we’re not going to come to a final agreement until we see draft legislative language, and we agree on that. I don’t think any of us expect there to be problems.”
