Are you required to give two weeks' notice if you are quitting an internship to help your father violently quell a revolution back home? Ask Khamis Gaddafi, Col. Muammar Gaddafi’s youngest son: The 27 year old was in Los Angeles on an internship when he left abruptly February 17. He returned to Libya to head up the 32nd Reinforced Brigade, known as the Khamis Brigade, and also infamous for its brutal suppression of rebel forces. There have been unconfirmed reports that Khamis died from injuries incurred when a disgruntled Libyan pilot crashed his plane into a military compound. While in the U.S., Khamis had a monthlong internship sponsored by L.A.-based engineering and design firm AECOM and with the assistance of the State Department. AECOM has been involved in a multibillion-dollar program to modernize Libya’s infrastructure, but the company withdrew all its expatriate employees and their families from Libya this month.
