The U.S. Olympic Committee announced Tuesday that Los Angeles has been selected as the nation’s candidate to host the 2024 Summer Olympics. The news comes after Boston pulled out of the race in July, putting L.A. in a race along with Paris, Rome, Budapest, and Hamburg. Earlier Tuesday, Los Angeles’s City Council voted unanimously in favor of pursuing a bid for the Summer Games. L.A. hosted the Games in 1932 and 1984 and could become the only city besides London to host the Olympics three times. The International Olympic Committee is expected to announce a winning bid in September 2017.
