Lady Gaga kicked off her week dressed as a first lady of fashion in an ultra-conservative black suit at the fifth-annual BGC Charity Day at BGC Partners on September 11, where she conducted trades with clients. The dark sunglasses, perhaps borrowed from a high-school science lab, were perfect for indoors.

Gaga was the Cher of the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards on September 13, making even more costume changes than host Russell Brand. The “Poker Face” singer, who was up for nine awards, first hit the red carpet alongside Kermit the Frog at Radio City Music Hall looking bedazzled and feathered. Her Fall 2008 Jean-Paul Gaultier dragon-print dress was accessorized with a wide leather corset belt from Atsuko Kudo, a gold latex mask, Kiko jewelry, a crushed velvet top hat, and a Keko Hainswheeler neck brace.

Before she dirtied her pristine performance as she demonically sang the words to her newest single “Paparazzi,” Gaga took a new spin on her fondness for bodysuits with this asymmetrical belly-baring leotard. Gaga stomped around the stage in white bejeweled Haus of Gaga knee-high boots and those signature fishnet stockings, all of which she accessorized later with a whole lot of blood.

After taking home a moon man at the VMAs for Best New Artist, the singer donned this infamous Gaultier Fall 2009 look called “Mae West,” which was originally sent down the runway on a model made to look like Gaga herself—with geometrically styled platinum hair and, of course, no pants. Gaga paired the ensemble with a pair of black Viktor & Rolf boots, with built-in sequined leg warmers, reminding onlookers the 23-year-old pop star is a child of the ‘80s.

Out to celebrate her three VMA wins, Gaga threw an afterparty at Avenue where she wore her sixth and final outfit for the evening. The Madonna-inspired look included a short white sequined dress with a long mesh overlay and a Victorian head piece weighted down with beading, pearls, and lace-covered circles a la a 19th-century Minnie Mouse.

After the multitude of outfit changes and unexpected gore at the VMAs, Gaga stuck around Manhattan the next day and attended the Marc Jacobs 2010 Spring Fashion Show at the New York Armory. She can never be simple—even in black and white—and posed with the designer, whose dress (in true Fashion Week form) she wore to the event. Gaga topped Jacobs’ Fall 2009 black taffeta draped dress with stone embroidery with a white overcoat, leather gloves, yet another feathered mask, and a hat suited for the Kentucky Derby.

Later that day, Gaga slinked around in a see-through red lace full-body stocking at the launch of V61 hosted by V Magazine, Marc Jacobs, and Belvedere Vodka. Before sitting down at her white piano, the singer tried to conjure up images of the Virgin Mary, complete with a gold sunburst head beam behind her iconic platinum coiffure.

Gaga capped off her week on September 15 at the CocoPerez.com launch party at Juliet, where she posed as a giant Q-tip who wears sunglasses at night. Much like the Alexander McQueen fully covered red-lace frock she wore briefly at the VMAs, Gaga’s face was ensconced in mesh and her head topped off with a white pom-pom. Her tame-by-comparison clutch was Marc Jacobs.
