‘Laser Cat’ Teen Takes His Own Life

17-year-old Draven Rodriguez, the high school senior whose yearbook photo featuring himself, lasers, and his cat went viral last year, took his own life on Thursday. At the time that his senior portrait became an Internet sensation, Rodriguez told local newspaper The Daily Gazette, “I don’t want to go in the yearbook with the generic ‘I-look-like-everyone-else’ photo. I wanted a ‘He looks great. Only he would try that’ photo.” Rodriguez got his principal’s permission to put the photo in the yearbook by agreeing to also include one featuring her in the same style, accompanied by a message promoting animal rescue and adoption.
