This is certainly a very public public awareness campaign. On Thursday morning, the Today show hosts Matt Lauer and Al Roker will get prostate exams on live television in support of a month-long effort to encourage focus on men's health issues. The procedure is a manual exam of the prostate gland to detect the common cancer—it's part of a routine checkup for men, though one often bypassed due to discomfort. It's not the first time a Today host has undergone a very intimate procedure on air. Katie Couric had a discreet, but live, colonoscopy, and later, mammogram.
