The New York Times has the first look at Laura Bush’s upcoming memoir, Spoken From the Heart. The paper obtained a copy from a bookstore and says Bush describes for the first time the car accident when she was 17 that killed a friend and “has haunted her for most of her adult life.” Rushing to the movie theater, Bush ran a stop sign and hit another car that was driven by a popular classmate of hers. The classmate died, and Bush was so racked with guilt she never attended the funeral. Other details from Spoken From the Heart? Bush defends her husband’s actions during Hurricane Katrina, takes Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid to task for “uncalled for and graceless” comments, and suggests she and her husband may have been poisoned during a G8 summit.
