Lebanon has banned all demonstrations near the Israeli border as Palestinians prepare to mark 44 years since the seizure of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip in the Six Day War in 1967. Palestinians in Lebanon and other Arab states had planned to march on Israel’s border on Sunday for the anniversary, just like they did in mid-May. Since the army has put the ban in place, organizers of the event have now cancelled the march, and have called for Palestinians in Lebanon to stage sit-ins and gatherings inside refugee camps. The Israeli army had already deployed extra troops along the Lebanese border to prepare for Sunday’s anniversary.
