Lee Makes Landfall in Louisiana

Tropical Storm Lee caused flooding in parts of New Orleans Sunday, while tornado warnings were issued in at least nine counties in Mississippi and three in Florida. The sluggish yet very soggy storm made landfall Sunday morning on the coast of Louisiana, and is drifting northeastward over the south-central part of the state. Forecasters said the storm is expected to sit over the area for few days, but some said the real threat of flash floods could come when it travels to the Appalachian region—with an outcome similar to Vermont after Hurricane Irene. There have been dozens of tornado sightings, although no reports of major damage yet. Some locations could get as much as 20 inches of rain by Monday morning, though most areas are being dumped with 10 to 15 inches. Track the storm here.
