Bill Cunningham, best known for his photographs of street style for the New York Times, has passed away at age 87 on Saturday. Cunningham had recently been hospitalized after a stroke. Cunningham worked for the Times for almost 40 years, documenting glamorous events in high society and the world of fashion, as well as popularizing the casual clothing he chronicled while roaming the city on his bicycle. He reportedly used more than 30 bikes in his career. In the past decade, Cunningham received many honors for his career achievements, including the Legion d’Honneur. He was also named a Living Landmark by the New York Landmark Conservancy, and was the subject of a popular 2010 documentary "Bill Cunningham New York.” The man lived a spartan life and was recognizable for his simple outfit—a blue worker’s jacket, khaki pants, and sneakers.
