A levee in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, breached on Monday after four consecutive days of heavy downpours dumped 15 inches of rain on the town. The breach occurred in a sparsely populated area and is unlikely to force evacuations beyond the 1,000 or so homes that have already been cleared. The storms have been hammering people with rain and tornadoes; seven people died in Arkansas.
