The dentist who shot, stalked, and killed Cecil the Lion has received so many violent threats since being publicly identified that local law enforcement told TMZ they will be checking up on him regularly—even though Dr. Walter Palmer has not requested their help. TMZ reports that its sources are on “high alert” for activists stepping over the line, and that they will be conducting regular checks on the dentist’s Minnesota home. Some activist groups, like PETA, called for Palmer to be hanged.
