A rather wonderful tribute to Joan Rivers greeted commuters at Hackney Wick Overground station in London this morning.

A member of staff had written in green ink on the bulletin board more usually reserved for dreary announcements of delayed trains and non-functioning lines the message: “As a tribute to the late Joan Rivers, parts of this station will be gradually replaced over the next 40 years.”

We feel sure that Rivers, who once joked that she had been “tucked in more times than a Holiday Inn bed sheet” would have approved of the joke, penned by railway man Ben Mathis.

Meanwhile a more formal tribute comes from Clarence House, which published a statement this morning revealing Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, were “deeply saddened” by Rivers’ death.It reads: “The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall are deeply saddened to hear of the death of Joan Rivers.”

Charles said: “Joan Rivers was an extraordinary woman with an original and indefatigable spirit, an unstoppable sense of humour and an enormous zest for life. She will be hugely missed and utterly irreplaceable.”
