Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has told the BBC that while he did not ask for the Syrian airstrikes carried out in Iraq against Sunni militants, he “welcomed” the attack. Maliki confirmed that it was Syria who hit militant posts in the border town of Qaim on Tuesday. Before rolling through Iraq, ISIS was one of the rebel factions fighting the Syrian government.
