Mandela Memorials Announced

A single memorial for anti-Apartheid leader Nelson Mandela, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 95, just doesn’t seem like enough. On Saturday, South Africa announced a week of memorials for its first democratic president, making for perhaps the biggest memorial service ever planned. A national day of prayer will be held on Sunday, with a special sitting of the two houses of parliament in honor of Mandela to follow on Monday. A public memorial service at the 95,000-capacity FNB Stadium in Soweto will come on Tuesday, open to both the public and world leaders. Mandela’s body will then lie in state at the Union buildings in Pretoria from December 11 to the 13^th.
