A 24-year-old grandson of Nelson Mandela has been charged with raping a 15-year-old girl in the bathroom of a Johannesburg bar. The accuser’s family said Mandela’s ex-wife, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, allegedly sent bodyguards in an attempt to persuade them not to press charges. (South African law deems sex with someone under 16 rape.) The grandson, who cannot be publicly named until a plea has been given, also claims he did not know the accuser was underage due to the bar’s 21-and-over policy.
