“Fuck me! I’m so fucked,” was how the billionaire owner of the Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban, reacted when he was told of an sexual-assault allegation made against him in 2011. According to a police transcript obtained by Oregon’s Willamette Week, Cuban was investigated after a woman told police that he assaulted her while they posed for a photograph together in a bar in Portland. The woman, who Willamette Week is not naming, told police that the billionaire forced his hand down the back of her jeans and penetrated her vagina with his finger—a claim that Cuban denied. Charges were never filed due to a lack of witnesses and physical evidence. “I filed the report because what he did was wrong,” the woman told the Willamette Week after it obtained the police transcript: “I stand behind that report 1,000 percent.” The leaked transcript emerged just two weeks after a damning report from Sports Illustrated in which more than a dozen current and former Mavs employees made allegations of a toxic work environment at the NBA team, ranging from sexual harassment to domestic violence.
