U.S. Senator John McCain joined the thousands of protesters in Kiev on Sunday, telling them “America is with you.” “People of Ukraine, this is your moment,” McCain told the cheering crowd. “This is about you, no one else. This is about the future you want for your country.” McCain’s speech came as the European Union halted the trade agreement that had brought the protesters out into the streets in the first place. The EU said it had no “clear commitment” for the deal, just days ahead of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych’s planned trip to the Kremlin. Sunday marked the fourth week of protests in Ukraine, where demonstrators have called for Yanukovych’s resignation amid stronger ties with the Kremlin, instead of a trade union with the EU.
