Medal of Honor Given to Afghanistan Vet

President Obama presented the Congressional Medal of Honor to an Afghanistan veteran who arranged an evacuation for his platoon while under heavy fire. U.S. Army Sgt. Kyle J. White and 14 other soldiers were ambushed in 2007. White was knocked unconscious but came to and treated injured soldiers while artillery rained down on them. When help came, White refused to evacuate until all the wounded had been treated. Six soldiers were killed in the attack. “Today, we pay tribute to a soldier who embodies the courage of his generation,” Obama said at the ceremony on Tuesday. White is the seventh living recipient of the award who fought in Iraq or Afghanistan.
