CoverGirl’s newest representative is, interestingly, a boy. James Charles, 17, will be the first male spokesmodel in the magazine’s nearly 60-year history.

“I can finally announce that I am officially a new @COVERGIRL,” the first-ever CoverBoy tweeted on Tuesday. “First boy ever & I am so excited to see whats coming!”

Charles, a senior in high school, is a surprisingly skilled makeup artist who just started chronicling his work on Instagram a year ago. His online breakthrough came last month, when his alarmingly elaborate yearbook photos went viral.

Now the makeup prodigy will be collaborating with CoverGirl brand ambassador Katy Perry and appearing in ads for the brand's new mascara, “So Lashy.”

Judging by his latest posts to Instagram, he seems pretty psyched.

“I truly hope that this shows that anyone and everyone can wear makeup and can do anything if you work hard,” he posted on Tuesday. “I can't wait to share with you all what we have in store, but trust me when I say it's gonna be real good.”
