Well, this is awkward. Mel Gibson may direct an historical film about Jewish icon Judah Maccabee, the actor’s representative confirmed Friday. Gibson will not act in the movie, which his production company is overseeing for Warner Bros., because he’s “too old” to play the legendary Judean priest and warrior. Los Angeles Rabbi Marvin Hier told CNN that it was preposterous that Gibson would have anything to do with the film. “Casting him as a director or star of Judah Maccabee is like casting Bernie Madoff to be the head of the Securities and Exchange Commission," Hier said. In 2006, Gibson infamously made headlines after he went on an anti-Semitic rant after being arrested for drunk driving.
