It is a good idea to get those apologies out of the way before New Years. Melissa Harris-Perry apologized on Tuesday to the Romney family for using an adopted black grandson as a punchline in a comedy segment. “While I meant no offense, I want to immediately apologize to the Romney family for hurting them,” Harris-Perry tweeted with the hashtag #MHPApology. During a segment on her MSNBC show Sunday, Harris-Perry showed a photo of the Romney family with a newly-adopted grandson, Kieran, who is African-American. Panelist Pia Glenn sang “one of these things is not like the other,” and comedian and Daily Beast columnist Dean Obeidallah said “it really sums up the diversity of the Republican party.” Since Sunday, the segment has been criticized by prominent Republicans.
