Last week, Mitt Romney released his newest campaign tactic: a smartphone app that allows users to upload their own pictures behind “I’m With Mitt” text. Unfortunately for Mitt there was a small spell-check error: one of the premade layouts misspelled the name of the country that the Republican contender is hoping to lead. The template, reading “A Better Amercia,” was noticed quickly and spread across the Internet. The Romney camp soon corrected the mistake, but not before scathing versions were posted on Twitter and the app had even inspired its own Tumblr, #Facepalm.

Twitter users had a heyday with the hashtag #amercia. Here, Top Conservative Cat notes that switching a letter might have disastrous consequences for Mitt’s presidency. For example, the one letter change in Iran and Iraq might make a bit of a difference.

Where exactly is Amercia? One Instagram user layered the unusual text over a map of Canada.

Misspelling America is a Homer Simpson–level mistake, but even the cartoon star might be embarrassed by such a juvenile gaffe. Another Simpsons-esque offering has Ralph, the show's notoriously dim-witted schoolboy, looking hopeful behind the promise of a better Amercia.

Web-aggregating site BuzzFeed cleverly incorporated Romney's misspelling into the sign for Good Morning America. The four smiling hosts stand proudly above their talk-show desk.

Team America members shoot serious looks at the camera above their new title “Team Amercia World Police.”

Stephen Colbert didn’t take long to jump on the bandwagon with his rendition of “Amercia the Beautiful.” Of course, every word was misspelled, which led to an unusual version that graced America’s ears.

One Instagram-er posted the template in front of another well-known spelling error—a mullet-donning man holding a sign suggesting “Get a brain! Morans.”

Many users Tweeted suggestions to the Republican candidate. This woman offers to send Romney a dictionary and did some letter switching of her own, with a “dog bless Amercia” signoff.
