Mexico Swaps U.S. Diplomats

The Mexican government on Tuesday replaced two of its top diplomats over growing concerns of anti-Mexican rhetoric and hostility in the United States. Carlos Sada, the consul in Los Angeles, was named ambassador to the U.S., while Paulo Carreno, a communication chief for President Enrique Pena Nieto, was announced as the new deputy foreign minister for North America. “We have been warning that our citizens have begun to feel a more hostile climate,” Foreign Minister Claudia Ruiz Massieu said after the announcement. The new ambassador still requires approval by the Senate. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Tuesday revealed he would block money transfers from undocumented migrants unless the Mexico pays for his planned border wall, if elected president.
