MI Board OKs Petition to Recall Governor

A state board on Monday approved the circulation of a petition to recall Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder in the wake of the Flint water crisis. The Board of State Canvassers, which is part of the secretary of state’s office, approved a petition to recall the governor for creating the State School Reform/Redesign Office, which organizers say disregards local prerogatives. The board rejected nine petitions in connection to his handling of lead contamination from corroded pipes that began leaching into Flint residents’ homes after the city switched water sources. State and federal authorities are investigating the water crisis. The petition is valid for 180 days and needs 789,133 signatures in a 60-day period to add a ballot measure later this year asking voters to remove Snyder.
