Prior to his death, Michael Jackson was not highly coveted property at Christie’s and other auction house. Jackson’s memorabilia and handmade works, such as his 2007 ballpoint pen drawing of Elvis, usually sold below estimate. While always considered collectible, his value has just been elevated by his untimely departure. Darren Julien of Julien’s Auctions, which tried to stage a big sale of Jackson memorabilia earlier this year, before Jackson stopped it, is optimistic about his market, while a Christie’s spokesman expressed a more wait-and-see response to sustained interest. However, recent eBay activity shows that there is lots of material out there and a public to buy it.
