When asked by TMZ at the Los Angeles airport if coming out as gay had anything to do with why he’s not on an NFL roster, Michael Sam said “I think I was the SEC Defensive Player of the Year last year... so I don’t think it had to do with talent.… I think it had to do with that.” Sam was cut by both the St. Louis Rams and the Dallas Cowboys. Sam also told the reporters that he’s working to get back into the NFL, and that his planned reality-TV show with Oprah Winfrey is unlikely to be revived.
