A Florida army wife and former military linguist was convicted Thursday of first-degree murder in the deaths of her two teenaged children. The jury found Julie Schenecke, 53, guilty for killing and shooting her 13-year-old son, Beau, and 16-year-old daughter, Calyx, in 2011 while her husband was deployed. After just over an hour, the jury announced that it had rejected Schenecke's insanity plea and found her guilty. Six mental health experts had said during the trial that she was mentally ill, but three claimed she was legally sane when she shot her children. The judge issued her two life term prison sentences with no chance of parole. Schenecke told the judge "I know I shot my son and daughter. I don't know why. But I have time to try to understand that."
