Miss New York, 23-year-old Mallory Hytes, beat out 52 other contestants to be named Miss America 2013 on Saturday night. Hytes comes from Brooklyn and attended the Fashion Institute of Technology. She plans to obtain a degree in cosmetics and fragrance marketing, but her platform issue is child sex abuse prevention. At Saturday night’s show she won the swimsuit competition and performed a tap dance to James Brown’s Get Up Offa That Thing. Ali Rogers, Miss South Carolina, was named the runner-up.
