Cara Mund, a 23-year-old who graduated from Brown University, beat out 50 other women to be crowned Miss America on Sunday night. Mund, who also holds the Miss North Dakota title, has been outspoken in seeking to empower women and said her goal is to become the first woman elected governor of North Dakota. During one of her onstage interviews for the pageant, Mund called President Trump’s bid to pull the U.S. out of the Paris climate agreement “a bad decision.” “There is evidence that climate change is existing and we need to be at that table,” she said. One of the defeated contestants was Miss Texas, Margana Wood, but she claimed viral social-media stardom after she ripped into Trump. Asked about his response to Charlottesville, she said: “I think that the white-supremacist issue, it was very obvious, that it was a terrorist attack. And I think that President Donald Trump should’ve made a statement earlier addressing the fact, and in making sure all Americans feel safe in this country."
