Mitt's Off the Mark

Elections 2012

Romney's lost. He had no idea that US policy, for the last 64 years, has been to deny Israel's request to move the US embassy to Jerusalem. He told CNN's Wolf Blitzer that "it's long been the policy of our country to ultimately have our embassy in the nation's capital, in Jerusalem" and that he "would follow the same policy we've had in the past, our embassy would be in the capital, but the timing of that is something I'd want to work out with the government [of Israel]." He looks silly because, well, Israel's always wanted its embassy in Jerusalem.

Of course, moving the embassy would be an incredibly complicated move, pregnant with implications for what negotiators (and Barack Obama) have called "final status" issues.

So, to be clear: Romney would consult with Israel about where it's always wanted it's embassy to be and then he would agree to move it because, well, that's what Israel wants. Even the Chinese think he should really know better.
