MO State Senator Arrested in Ferguson

State Senator Jamilah Nasheed was taken into custody Monday night in front of the Ferguson police station after she apparently walked into the street when police told protesters not to do so. St. Louis County Police Sgt. Brian Schellman said Nasheed and a man she was with “were told multiple times to leave the street and they were arrested.” Protesters have been demonstrating in Ferguson since white police officer Darren Wilson shot and killed black teenager Michael Brown on Aug. 9. Nasheed, a St. Louis Democrat, recently announced that she would introduce a bill in the state legislature to impose a mandatory 10-year sentence on anyone convicted of a gun-related crime.
