Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman may have a difficult time convincing the rest of America that it’s time for a Mormon president if they can’t even convince other Mormons. A survey released by the Pew Research Center on Thursday finds that only 56 percent of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints think Americans are ready for a Mormon in the White House. The two Mormon candidates have avoided delving too deeply into their religious beliefs, as it is a contentious subject, particularly for many conservative Christians who don’t consider Mormonism a part of Christianity. While Mormons may have little faith in America’s ability to elect one of their own for president, 86 percent of those who completed the survey have a favorable view of Romney, as opposed to the 50 percent who are Huntsman fans.
