Moscow Metro Derails and Kills 20

Multiple subway cars derailed during the Tuesday morning rush hour in Moscow, killing at least 20 and injuring over 120 people. A power surge caused the train to suddenly stall, causing some of the cars to be thrown off the tracks. The train became trapped between Slaviansky Boulevard and Park Pobedy stations. President Vladimir putin has ordered a criminal investigation into the derailment, though no militant involvement is suspected. One of the passengers described to RT how he was “tossed up in the air” and that “there was blood on the floor, heads bruised, arms broken. Panic broke out.” The Moscow metro carries as many as nine million passengers on a work day. Moscow’s health department chief, Georgy Golukhov, said on Russian television that only one person is still trapped in the train, but emergency workers suspect there could be many others left in there, too.
