NATO to End Air Raid Oct. 31

NATO’s air campaign against Libya will end on Oct. 31, the alliance announced Friday. The air raids started on March 19 with the intent to stop former dictator Muammar Gaddafi’s brutal crackdown on protesters and to suppress his missile and radar networks. In the wake of Gaddafi’s death Thursday, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said the mission had been a success. He said there will be a final vote on the Libya mission early next week. The last 10 days of the patrol will be mainly a cautionary measure, Fogh Rasmussen said.
