Eight months after holding its first exhibition game in South Africa, the National Basketball Association has agreed to a broadcast deal in sub-Saharan Africa that will allow games to be aired in three different languages across the region. The contract with Econet Wireless Global Ltd. comes as the NBA attempts to expand its international reach—in recent years it has opened offices in Johannesburg and Mumbai, India. As part of the deal, Econet will offer more than 500 NBA events each year in English-, French-, and Portuguese-speaking countries.
