Officials in California said that 249 people are still missing after the Camp Fire tore through the northern part of the state, leaving 85 people dead, according to reports. The death toll, released by state forestry and fire-control agency, Cal Fire, is down from its prior count of 87 fatalities. The Butte County Sheriff's Office said the number of missing was down from more than 1,000 several days ago, CNN reported. The massive forest fire, which broke out Nov. 8 and has since become California’s deadliest such blaze, was 98 percent contained as of Saturday, officials said. While recent downpours have helped extinguish the flames in some “hot spots,” Cal Fire said “The fire line that remains uncontained is located in steep and rugged terrain where it is unsafe for firefighters to access due to the heavy rains.” The search for additional victims is ongoing.
