Watch out, retail workers of the world. Nestle, one of the globe’s largest food companies, announced Wednesday that its Japanese unit will hire 1,000 robots as sales clerks for its stores. The robots, named Pepper, will be in place at the end of this year to sell coffee capsules and home espresso machines. “We are sure that our customers will enjoy shopping and being entertained by robots,” said Nestle Japan spokeswoman Miki Kano.
