Netflix has signed Adam Sandler to star in and produce four movies to be available exclusively on the Internet video-streaming company worldwide. The deal comes days after Netflix shook up the Hollywood moviemaking culture by announcing an agreement with The Weinstein Company to produce a sequel to the 2000 martial-arts hit Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon to premiere on Netflix and also in IMAX theaters. The first movie under the agreement with Sandler could arrive as soon as 2015. Netflix will work with Sandler’s Happy Madison production company to develop the four films—presumably comedies. The deal does not affect Sandler’s current studio film commitments. The Saturday Night Live alum’s films have grossed $3.9 billion worldwide.
