U.S. employers added just 160,000 new workers in April, the smallest increase recorded in seven months, the Labor Department reported early Friday. The surprisingly glum figures—analysts had projected more than 200,000 for the period—may reflect slower growth in the economy. The unemployment rate remained at 5 percent. One bright spot: Average hourly wages were up 0.3 percent for the month, and worker pay was up 2.5 percent from April 2015.
